I grew up on hot cereal. I love how it’s easy and warm and filling; it’s comfort food at it’s best. Add some extra butter and it’s the perfect breakfast – except when you’re low carb, keto or gluten-free.
Luckily, I found a way to make it with chia seeds and hemp seeds – both superfoods. The texture is a little closer to Malt-O-Meal than oatmeal, but it’s so good!
And “super” nutritious!

Hot Breakfast Cereal
If you’re low carb or keto and you’ve been missing hot cereal like oatmeal, Cream of Wheat or Malt-O-Meal, or if you’re just tired of eggs, this one’s for you!
Ingredients
- 1/4 c hemp seeds
- 1 T chia seeds
- 2/3 c water
- 2 t butter or ghee
- 1 1/2 t almond butter
- Pink Himalayan salt to taste
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a small sauce pan and bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly. Cook until thick.
